First Story

Modern societies witness a change with the arrival of the office going women. They are smart fashionable and trendy. They bring some fresh air in the office. They are popular as secretaries, typists and assistants to their Boss. But unfortunately Jyothika’s Boss is seeking some unusual and unfavorable sexual favors from some of his female subordinates. She also came to know that her Boss wanted to purchase some ill equipped machinery for the company’s Raidighi plant for his own personal profit. The Agency through which this deal will be done is headed by his wife. It is learnt that on purchasing those machines, the company’s profit will decline because they are second- hand and the agency is being paid for the purchase of new machineries. The Agency will make nearly fifty lakh in profit. This secret news came to Jyothika’s knowledge from her confidential sources in office. Jyothika is working there for about five years. She joined as assistance in the Secretarial Dept. Purchase Manager’s office. She is a Hnrs. Graduate in English and with diploma in Management and Trade laws. Her specialization in these subjects helped her to make rapid progress in her career. Her father is retired and mother, sick. Her brother, Joy is about nine years younger and his very close to her. Her office is for about five days a week and she spends the remaining two days at home with her parents and Joy. She does not discuss official issues at home, especially with her dad. But this time she is unable to control her anger. She is feeling helpless; she is most nervous and afraid about her Boss’s sexual remark against her. She fears to report it to the higher authorities, for a fear of revenge. But Jyothika confessed to her dear little Joy, more like her son than her brother.

Next morning, was Saturday, her dad arrived with the tea, and ‘Jyothi’ get up its 6.30 in the morning’. Her dad touches her scalp as a sense of affection; she reciprocates by embracing the old man. Her dad asks,’ if you are facing any serious problem at office, then you could leave this and go for another’. But it’s very hard to get another one so easy these days. Her dad advises her to talk to persons favorable to her in the management. Jyothika was looking for this advice, he also said for not to talk with colleagues about the matter. Since this is a sensitive issue, so it should be handled very carefully. Jyothi carefully makes a list of persons, she would meet to discuss this issue, and she also takes the help of two of her very close colleagues. Then she starts her fight systematically. She approaches her close persons in the management and they assure her that they will raise the issue in the next meeting. A welfare meet is held every twice a month to look into the problems of the employees. Then the day comes and one by one each issue is being discussed at the meeting, just after the tea brake, a senior executive in the management raises the issue of sexual harassment and gross negligence in the company’s accounts. The concerned executive was very much disturbed, seen in his physical behavior, he was about to get up and run away, Jyothika got hold of his hand. He pleaded, “Sister, Jyothi, please protect me, I was under great pressure”. After much deliberation it was agreed with Jyothika’s advice that the person will not be promoted for another year and instead be demoted and Jyothi will be promoted in his place.

Then, next week the office was in a complete new look, the person who harassed Jyothika is nowhere to be seen. He was transferred to his earlier department. The management took a strong decision of removing a wrong man and above all he has a previous reputation of harassing women. Earlier some complained and some kept quiet, but all felt it. But Jyothika met that person after some day’s and assured him all help if he becomes a good person. Her previous Boss agreed to follow her previous subordinate’s advice. Gradually their relation became normal. Jyothika’s parents became happy after the problems at her office were amicably sorted out. They felt much relieved that their daughter would leave the job and become unemployed. They are now planning to marry off Jyothika and let her settle in life. Jyothika took leave from office for about two weeks and went on a trip to Rishikesh. The trip was good, while walking alone a mountainous path in Rishikesh, Jyothi met Jaydev. He came from Asansol with his widow mother. He is a web and graphical designer and writer and Jyothika liked him at first sight. He was taking photos with his Canon digi-cam. His soft nature attracted Jyothi towards him. Jay brought her to visit his mother. His mom liked her at once and asked her about her parents. Later they met and finally the date of marriage was decided on their return from Rishikesh. After about a month Jay married Jyothi and brought her home. On Jay’s suggestion Jyothi left her job to look after the home and Jay’s mom. But through her earlier contracts she acquired many home based jobs and would do it flexibly at her suitable time. Within a few days after her marriage, she felt very much alone in home, since her mother-in-law was also out of town at her brother’s home in Chandannagore. She immediately called Jay, home and he arrived after some time. For the last few Jyothi was feeling the absence of a baby, and Jay after taking tea went for a bath but Jyothi has different plans. She knocked the door of the bath and went inside. They kissed, embraced and become close to form one. Jay was eagerly waiting for it and she lifted Jyothi and pushed his power behind her and released all his energy inside her and she conceived within a few months and both the families became very happy.
